Descendant of the Sun Recap Episode 2

This story tells of doctors stationed in the fictional war zone of Urk (Uruk), and follows the love story that develops between a surgeon (Kang Mo-yeon) and a special forces officer (Yoo Shi-jin), both elite in their respective fields. The story will track both their personal and professional struggles while exploring issues about the value of life.

From Episode one the ending we have Captain Yoo heading off on an aircraft heading toward a unknown region to rescue hostages. After securing an agreement from Doctor Kang for a movie date.

Doctor Kang watches the helicopter take off flying far away. Her sunbae (Senior) Doctor Song comes up to the rooftop for a smoke.
Curious as to why Doctor Kang is staring out into space and asking what she is doing. Mo Yeon already is curious as to what the soldier Captain Yoo does so her question is if one is part of special forces would they get picked up by a helicopter.

Doctor Song confused by Mo Yeon said that there was no way anyone in the Korean Military would get shot by a gun. Most of the time each man is trained for two years in the military and there were no evidence of any shots. I guess his taking this from his experience in the military he must of serve before, considering his now middle age. Curious he asked if someone flew away or fly away, he must of thought that there was no possibility and if Doctor Kang was drug up or something. 

Screen pops up Afghanistan Pakistan borderland UN Peacekeeping Forces camp base. Inside a tent there is a meeting with commanders of United States and different other countries with Koreans. They are being updated that two UN workers that were in Gandamak region have been kidnapped by the Taliban. Intel is presented of the building of where the hostages are held and strategies of attack are given. There would be two teams combined from different regions doing this co-op together.

The operation commences and they would have 90 seconds to finish the mission. UN side would go from the North East another side would come from the South East. While going into the building one of Shi-Jin men tripped a wire resulting in wires being throw and boxes hitting everywhere like it was a bomb. Seo Dae Young yells at their soldiers. Shi Jin said mission failed and everyone is dead.

The other Operation Leader I think his code name is Delta Force Captain Black Bull told Shi Ji that their Korean boy scout should go back home and train with their mamas after throwing a knife that hit a box to Shi Jin side area.

Unable to let Black Bulls comment and actions slide Big Boss threw the knife back between Black Bulls legs as it hit the box. Both Captains start to fight one another, one of Alpha team try to move forward to stop them worry that Big Boss might end up getting killed. However, Dae Young stopped him telling him when Special Forces meet for the first time at a joint operation, they get into their own battle to test each other...to find out if the other is skilled enough to be trusted. This isn't a sparring but the actual battle.

After all you need to be able to trust the person to guard your back when you are fighting. Its when the other commanders come in to stop the fighting that both Shi Jin and Delta Force Captain stopped. They both were order to get back to work to retrain once again because they need to complete the mission and not fail together.

Inside the women's bathroom Mo Yeon is talking to her best friend Doctor Pyo. They were discussing about the exams and interviews. Both were concern about their placement and jobs interviews. The doctor that came in was younger and look like she dresses in short clothes. Overall she came into the surgery and Mo Yeon is surprise since this surgery is Doctor Park's operation, but the young woman claim that he change his mind and she would be leading the operations. That Kang Mo Yeon would be her assistant.  During the operations the lady stated that she heard that Mo Yeon summarized the paper for Professor Baek, Mo Yeon shot back she heard that the lady bought him a watch.

While touching the patient Mo Yeon notice Tension Pneumothroax and that they would need to decompress. Mo Yeon requested a 14 gauge needle but the lady declare she is the operating surgeon and will do it. The young doctor inserted the 28 french gauge that resulted in blood spewing outward and hitting Mo Yeon.

I really do like how the scenes were intertwined the operations for rescue and the operations to save a life. Delta Force one of the soldiers member took a step in and ended up in a net and Black Bull shouted that it is a trap. Gun fire happen and the Korean forces started to hurry up into a position so they can take out fire. Shi Jin tosses in a gas bomb to fog up the area, while Piccolo climb up the wall to get into position to shoot from up high. 

Kang Mo Yeon is holding paddles and resuscitating the person on the operations table while she surgically ties back the cut area and finishes the operations with her staff. One side is taking lives another side is fighting to save lives. When Delta force captain came closer Big Boss shot the floor to point at the bomb that was attack with infra-ray. With that Big Boss radios in that mission was complete. Jang Hee-eun 1st year anesthesiologist congratulations Mo Yeon for a job well done.

 Mo Yeon felt frustrated by the other doctors mistakes and being stupid on the job. She then turn to ask her how she is feeling in regards to the baby in her belly then asked about Lee Chi Hoon. Jang Hee-eun shows up the ring and show that both are together. Chi Hoon appear and said he needed to talk to Mo Yeon, while his fiancee/wife went away, he started to rummage in the operations bin and finally found his ring. 

Yep really absent minded I understand why Mo Yeon wanted to hit him. Visiting her friend Pyo Ji-soo inside the office. Mo Yeon admires a photograph of bones her friend wondering if she was nuts, considering she doesn't have a photo of the guy she is ga ga over.

Heading out she told Lee Chi-Hoon to leave her alone because she has a date with someone. Exiting after an exhausting day at surgery she spotted Shi-Jin outside and immediately crosses her arms after her stretches to conceal her face. She wasn't wearing make up and obviously was heading back home for a shower.

Shi-Jin looking quite please at seeing how cute she is told her that he came early then planned. She asked him if she doesn't still got two hours to go before the date. Being very honest she said she need to go home and shower. Then she asked him if she doesn't need to take a shower since he said she is pretty, but he said he would give her a ride home.

I guess he would be able to tell where she lives now because of this. Arriving at her home for first time he look around to see how quaint and roomy it is. She told him since she is starving from not eating all day, she would pay for the food and if delivery would be okay. You can see how nervous the captain man appear to be inside her house. She reassure him she would just wash her hair. She told him there are flyers on her fridge and to order what he wants, he ask her what does she want and she immediately replied Dolsot bibimbap!

He felt surprised by how peculiar she was on her food. Looking at her fridge he notices the photographs of her with people and graduating then also the warning of water being cut off at 4pm. It would just be her embarrassing luck that the water was shut off right when she shampoo her hair. Wrapping her hair into a towel Shi Jin look shocked on how she could have washed her hair.

Embarrassed but keeping a plain face she went to the fridge grab two bottles of water and went to the bathroom. She really runs fast and efficiently.

He teases saying he could heat the water up for her and she said no way. Supposedly he probably feel she is cute and would get lot of mileage from this by teasing her. She isn't boring after all.



The delivery came and already both are settled down eating food, Mo Yeon hair is fully dried and clean. Shi Jin wanted to tease her and she already could tell that he wanted to tease her. She light up a candle beside them to increase the scent. She then let him ask his question and he asked if she ever though of him. Mo Yeon replied she did and then asked him the same question back. He replied he did. She thank him for letting go of the hair washing incident.

Shi Jin said that they should get coffee at the cinema and she said alright and then he started to tease her about getting a bottle of water. Arriving at the movie theater Mo Yeon sat there comfortable being with him sipping a soda. Mo Yeon told Shi Jin that she is older than him. So his teasing before wasn't befitting. They both seem to having fun with one another. However, right as they both were watching Shi-Jin phone rang and he said that he needed to leave and that he was sorry. That they should leave, Mo Yeon reassure him that she can watch it by herself, he felt a bit uncertain, but he apologize and left.

Then Mo Yeon received a call and hurried back to Hae Sung Hospital she heard that she was turned down for the Professor position again. She felt devastated because that was her dream to be a professor. She talked to Professor Baek and said the first time she was turned down because she was young the second time was because of another connection.



Doctor Song talking to Nurse Ha-ae and Lee Chi Hoon said that abilities mean nothing only political clout. I doubt after this that she would help with research papers anymore. Professor Kim the young lady that made the mistake originally I think just handed her the live broadcast because she doesn't want to do it. She wants to celebrate she is a Professor and want to get drinks. Of course this set off Mo Yeon because this doctor is useless and also use her connection shamefully. The woman grab her hair tugging it and it end up in a total cat fight going on.

Sitting crying alone somewhere she is memorizing the broadcast topics to talk on the live broadcast and you can see she is absolutely devastated by everything.  She never realize that it is plausible that since the hospital sponsor everything that they would be paying a lot of money to show the person on the television favor and in a way she would gain lots of political clout.

Returning back to the army base from their mission Team Bravo did their report to the Commander Yoon. The Commander told them that he is sending their team on a eight month holiday to Uruk and that Alpha team would be dissolved. He also told them that they would have two weeks in Korea to meet with their family and girlfriends.

Going to the hospital he went to search for Doctor Kang and found out that she is appearing on the television. He is waiting at her home and watches as she drives back home and instead of letting him into her home she and him went to a coffee house outside.

Here Mo Yeon asked him where did he go and if he took a helicopter. Shi Jin said that he wouldn't be able to tell her. 

Mo Yeon said these are the questions she had thought of when he was gone.  "Where did the man I was attracted to disappear to?" & "What does he do?"


All he can do is apologize to her that he is a soldier that is forbidden to tell her anything.

Mo Yeon confirms that Shi Jin has fired a gun before and she stated that he kills and if only he fight the bad guys only? Whereas she spend 12 hours a day in surgery saving lives regardless of whom the person is.

They both discovery they have different life styles and different beliefs and you can feel the pain in Shi Jin at discovering that she may indeed not understand enough to want to be with him. Whereas she herself broke up with him in the sense telling him it is good to meet him and so she left.

If you consider if Shi Jin has two weeks off the first very day he is back she left him. He had remaining 13 days left. Back at the barracks he is taking a shower.

Seo Dae Young asked him why he is back already.

Shi Jin reflected the words back. Asking him why he isn't going to see Myung Joo considering he would be gone for six months away.

Requesting for a razor to be passed over Dae Young hand it over.

Note: An article was published on Jin Goo interview. There he said that Song Joong Ki was a professional he brought both shorts for him and Jin Goo during the shower scene. At first because of forgetting Jin Goo was embarrassed thinking he would be in his underwear for this scene. Guess Song Joong Ki is quite considerate of problems. Haha.

These two guys are a riot together Dae Young said there are beauties of Uruk. I am sure there are boys! Honestly they both naughty and both are players.

I guess to cheer up both of them they went together out into Korea to have fun before going to Uruk. (Reference to what will happen in Episode 10 the Flight Attendant photograph) It's absolutely funny the running images of the two guys.

Now in Uruk we have the two boys getting into trouble again. They had their own troops

The men are doing their morning jogs without a shirt in the sunny dirt field base of theirs. The songs goes Handsome...men...are...everywhere...But I am...a real man...a really great man...we are never defeated...with pride...with love I am a real man.

The sign of 8 months later indicates that Shi Jin and his troops have been in Uruk for this long and been away from Mo Yeon. Wow time passes fast. Shi Jin sits inside the jeep out in the field watching his men out there with bomb detecting devices.

Dae Young approaches asking him if he was sleeping but instead Shi Jin said he is thinking. Dae Young asked him if he wants ice coffee but the guy teases back that water will do fine. They had discover a bomb in the field and already their bomb expert Snoopy is looking over the bomb. Captain Yoon said that he is taking responsibility no matter what even if the guy blows up. Of course the Commander in Corps command was very mad because this sort of thing could create a great disaster.  US troops are the ones that are suppose to be the one to disarm the bomb not Taebak Corps command officers or soldiers.

Park Byung Soo the Commander above Captain Yoo was yelling at them. Then Shi Jin started to shouting at Dae Young I think in jest and BSing the commander. Of course the guy probably could tell and tell them both to pack their gear and to start running. (Clap hands)The Privates of course line up and said run faster and then run back into the barrack as a joke while the two guys are still doing their laps. HAHA. Must be boring there. Shi Jin is all smiles even though he is being punished.

Mo Yeon is continuing to appear on live television giving advice and information from a doctors stand point. I wonder if she also achieve a title of Professor for being on television. While going back to the hotel she noted that she is now seeing mostly VIP customers of the hospital. Most of these guys want to conceal their certain disorders and also take advantage of the hospital. Such as checking DNA of hairs to see if they could be part of their lineage.

Mo Yeon going to Subway order many sandwiches. She is complimented by the girl worker in subway for being pretty in real life. heading to ER she gives them subway food for them to eat. Doctor Kim that gave up the live broadcast appeared and started to being all puff up. While Mo Yeon said she isn't a doctor and the woman said the same for her since neither of them are doing surgery. However Mo Yeon said that doing make up isn't being a doctor and she is consider more business. I guess she show her up.

Mo Yeon headed back up to the roof and started to think of all the time about Shi-Jin even after 8 months she still thinks about him. The short amount of memories she had of him and what they talk to one another about. She also was curious how if he was doing labor how he hurt his face. The both of them at that point in the memories were able to get along more, until his disappearance all the time.

Captain Yoo discover Kim Gi-Beom shoveling in the back trying to dig a ditch for cooking. Unable to take how long it was taking Shi Jin went forward and taking the shovel showing Gi-Beom how to do it. Instead it resulted in the shovel breaking fracturing in wood and his left hand being injured. Shocked that he really did hurt himself on manual labor. Gi-Beom cries he needs first aid and started to write on his arm.

Dae Young appears asking what is wrong and Shi Jin complains why he had this kid here. Dae Young said that he likes him and his a great cook. Of course Sergent Gongs birthday and they needed wine and cream. Shi Jin nodding his head said he knew where to get the wine and cream. Heading to the bar that is run by Valentine. A sexy Uruk woman that seem pretty efficient she told them the wine is ready and she is just getting the cream ready.

A korean woman came into the bar and was talking with Valentine and was handed a gun. She was purchasing a gun her name is Ri Ye-hwa but they didn't know this just yet. She points the gun at Shi Jin and he ducks with Dae Young shocked, but in just one move he disarm her and took the gun apart. He asked Ri Ye-hwa why she would need a gun, but the woman told him off stating she purchase the gun to protect herself.

Of course Dae Young said it is a new face and Shi Jin asked Valentine who the woman is....The bar owner said there is two things they don't sell and that is Woman and Information. That woman is so rawr! I absolutely adore her!Being out gun and out man the boys were given their whip cream and headed back to the base to celebrate a birthday.

In Haesung Hospital a gathering of Mo Yeon sunbae the Nurse Ha-ae , Min Ji and Chi Hoon talk about the volunteer work that would happen in Uruk. Chi Hoon look so excited and Mo Yeon scolded him in regards that he has a baby that is going to come soon and what he wanted to be Schweitzer? Schweitzer is the fame man that without money or what not go out to cure people for free in third world countries.

The Director came along to tell Mo Yeon to meet him for dinner, of course everyone is surprised and Mo Yeon wonder if she should climb the political ladder. The Director is divorce according to Doctor Song, however Mo Yeon didn't think anything about it.

The next scene is at a hotel where the man is there with a set up of a dinner table and he is trying to get Mo Yeon to sleep with him. What a bad man! Thinking she would think nothing of it and would submit to him he is surprise when Mo Yeon hit him with her bag.

Mo Yeon next day is talking to her friend Pyo whom is shocked by Mo Yeon's behavior. Mo Yeon wonders if she would end up being fired however she ended up being sent to Uruk as punishment.

Note: The Voluntary Hospital List someone said that Mo Yeon Birthday is 14 September 1983.

Arriving by airplane to Uruk which is hot. Mo Yeon not wanting to pick up the directors phone calls, ended up having to talk to him on the cellphone of Doctor Song. She told him in front of everyone that she feels his a not so good man because he had her meet him at the hotel and that she would throw her resignation at him when she got back and open her own clinic.

Then the Helicopter came to pick them up to bring them to the base. Out comes the man she thought about for eight months but while this happened her scarf flew off and roll on the runway. But she couldn't help looking at the men that were approaching her. He then passed by her and she turn to look at his back.

Wonderfully done! Also expensive all of those aircraft haha.
